"F**k It!" Friday: Lilly Singh

AKA Superwoman. No, actually...

Welcome back to Friday with MTV Breaks… which can only mean one thing. It’s “F**k It!” Friday – a day dedicated to the “f**k it” masterminds out there who’ve made it big in their industries because they’ve stuck to their guns and pursued their passions, even against the odds.

Because being brave enough to actually follow through with your ideas is really the only difference between failure and success.

So who’s our FIF role model this week? Drumroll… it’s LILLY SINGH!

YouTube funny girl Lilly has become a global sensation. She has accumulated more than two BILLION views on her channel, and has over twelve million subscribers. Under her sassy YouTube personality IISuperwomanII, Lilly has been posting videos for six years about every topic you can think of, from periods to sandwiches to her parents. She dresses up as different characters, answers questions from her fans and she gives pretty good advice, alongside empowering women and supporting the occasional campaign.

Lilly is now the highest paid female YouTuber, and has a net worth of nine million dollars. Not only has her channel gone from strength to strength, she also launched her own popular lipstick shade in 2016 with Smashbox which became number one in the range, and her book published the same year, How To Be A Bawse: A Guide To Conquering Life, became number one on The New York Times’ monthly business bestseller list. Oh and she’s also a Hollywood actress too.

The secret to her success? Lilly went through a pretty tough time. At school she always felt pressured to do things she didn’t want to do, and when she went to University to get her Psychology degree she struggled with depression which made her believe life wasn’t worth living any more. But she had always wanted to act, rap and dance, and when she realised that making YouTube videos was a thing, she set up her own channel to pursue her own interests for a change.

“I was just like, no! I’m gonna make weird videos on the internet and do whatever the F I want and I’m gonna make myself happy,” she said in a Netflix interview.

In other words, Lilly said “f**k it!” (probably) because she decided that life’s too short to not do the things you love, and by committing to her YouTube channel she made herself happy and a huge success story at the same time, all by herself. She’s legit Superwoman, and we should all take a leaf out of her book (it’s on Amazon, guys).

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
