F**k It Friday: Lin-Manuel Miranda
Love is love is love is love.
HI THERE. Welcome back to F**k It Friday - a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about believing in yourself, and making them happen. AMIRIGHT?
So who’s next up in the FIF roll call of honour, drumroll… it’s LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA!
Lin-Manuel is a pretty big deal in Musical Theatre Land. His hit new musical ‘Hamilton’ has received a grand total of 16 Tony Nominations (a new record) and 11 Tony wins, and he’s the composer, the star, the writer, the lyricist… he’s pretty much an all-star cast all by himself!
Surely that’s gotta make him arrogant, right? Wrong! He’s a pretty great guy, and he’s done loads of things for good causes. Like when he made that amazing speech as tribute to the Orlando victims at the Tony Awards (you know, that “love is love is love” etc. one), and then made a personalized t-shirt with quotes from it to sell for Equality Florida, an LGBT charity. We want one.
So Lin-Manuel is pretty inspiring in general, but this week he did something a little bit special. What did he do? He said "f**k it" (probably) and teamed up with our fave pop diva Jenny (from the block) to make a charity single. It’s called ‘Love Make The World Go Round’ and all the money from it will be going to the Hispanic Federation’s campaign ‘SomosOrlando’, as more than 95% of the victims were Latino.
Perfect. And from what we’ve heard of the single, J-Lin is a killer combo (it really is damn catchy).
Lin-Manual Miranda has truly earned the “f**k it” crown this week… and we’re pretty jealous of his wife, tbh.
