F**k It Friday: Serena Williams
Champion of champions.
HI THERE. Welcome back to F**k It Friday - a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about believing in yourself, and making them happen. AMIRIGHT?
So who’s next up in the FIF roll call of honour, drumroll… it’s SERENA WILLIAMS! Obviously.
She’s Queen of all things tennis, winning her 7th Wimbledon and 22nd Grand Slam last week... she’s literally the champion of champions. And while Serena’s not busy winning matches, she’s stealing our hearts.
Why? Firstly, she’s a huge supporter of Black Lives Matter and did this AHmazing recital of a poem called ‘I rise’ by Maya Angelou as a promo before her Wimbledon final that we guarantee will give you MAJOR body shivers. It’s all about the fight for racial equality.
Secondly, she’s the BEST spokeswoman for female body confidence ever, preaching that everyone should be proud of and love their individual body type. It’s especially good cos Serena has had to deal with a lot of body shaming and weird sexualisation from the press, just for being a woman playing sport… and she’s standing her ground!
But what is it that has placed her upon the F**k It throne this week? Well, she said that when she was younger, she came up with the affirmation, “I will work in Africa and help kids and help people”. Cute, you might think, but probably not gonna happen…
BUT IT DID! That’s right, Serena said a great big “f**k it” (probably) and, with the help of ‘Build Africa Schools’, she opened up her own school in Kenya! And another one in Uganda. AND “f**k it”, while we’re at it, how about another one in Jamaica (which she built with ‘Helping Hands Jamaica’ earlier this year).
Now if Serena doesn’t deserve to be F**k It Queen, we don’t know who does. What a bae.
