TBT: Dakota Fanning

No really, she has ALWAYS been this amazing.

HI THERE and welcome to Throw Back Thursdays (#TBT), a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about celebrating some of our fave celebs BEFORE they were famous and had the world at their feet. Cos everyone has to start somewhere, right?!

So today we’re travelling back in time to take a look at how far the A-listers have come, to remind you that ANYTHING is possible - even if your job is handing out leaflets dressed as a giant chicken atm... no, ESPECIALLY if it is!

But who has won our TBT title this week? Drumroll… it’s DAKOTA FANNING! Where to start with Dakota Fanning? I guess we’ll have to start at the very beginning… when she had her first TV debut in 1999 at just FIVE YEARS OLD. It was for a dishwashing detergent company called Tide but, far from being washed out, Dakota’s career spiraled afterwards in the best way possible.

It was when she secured a main role in “I Am Sam” in 2001 that she got her big break, and from then on she was in high demand. Dakota was an angelic blue-eyed child who became utterly immersed in the stories and characters she was portraying, even though she was only a child. She was a rare talent, and every filmmaker in Hollywood wanted a piece of her.

She starred in four big movies in 2002, in star-studded casts featuring the likes of Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon and Courtney Love. She then starred alongside Brittany Murphy in ‘Uptown Girls’ in 2003, Robert De Niro in ‘Hide and Seek’ in 2005… the list goes on. And she’s still going. It’s pretty exhausting for normal humans to think about. (By the way she was also a cheerleader at school and was made Homecoming Queen, obviously).

What was it like growing up on movie sets? “I think when you’re a child, it’s hard for you to know your life is different from anyone else’s”, she said in a Huffington Post interview, “And then, of course, as you get older, you realize that there are billions of people on the planet and everybody lives a different way and everybody has a different situation”. “It’s definitely not a normal thing”.

No it’s very ABnormal but hey, Dakota has done a brilliant job at keeping positive and grounded IRL, despite all the fame and glory. And (we’re sure she’d agree) she’s now reached the pinnacle of her career, as she has won our Throwback Thursday title this week! So all that childhood stardom was worth it. You’re welcome Dakota!

HAPPY THURSDAY EVERYONE!
