TBT: P. Diddy

HI THERE and welcome to Throwback Thursdays (#TBT), a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about celebrating some of our fave celebs BEFORE they were famous and had the world at their feet. Cos everyone has to start somewhere, right?!

So today we’re travelling back in time to take a look at how far all the A-listers have come, and remind you that ANYTHING is possible - even if your job is handing out leaflets dressed as a giant chicken atm... no, ESPECIALLY if it is!

But who has won our TBT title this week? Drumroll… it’s P. DIDDY! Or… Puff Daddy... or Puffy… or Diddy… look, the guy has a lot of names. But Sean Combs is his real name, and it’s Sean Combs we’ll be focusing on today.

While P. Diddy is the leading hip-hop artist and rap-master responsible for some of our greatest popular music hits in the last ten years, Sean didn’t always have such an impressive CV.

Let’s R-R-R-REWIND to when Sean was only 12 years old.

He was a paper boy! But Sean was no average paper boy – he had got the job through his own doing, because he spotted the opportunity and created it for himself. He saw that some of the paper boys were leaving for college and drew up a deal with them. If he delivered their papers for them, he would send them half the money.

So Sean got a job, aged 12, even though he was too young to work legally (ever the bad boy). And he says that, even now, he approaches the music industry with that same entrepreneurial spirit he made use of back then.

SO Puffy/ Diddy/ P.Diddy/ whatever he calls himself these days, is an inspiration to us all. People like Sean climb their way to the top, and make their own luck. That’s why Sean has WON our TBT title this week… cos he’s totally badass.
