Where Are They Now?: Robin Hofstra

Robin was the winner of our Isle of MTV Malta director competition - here's what she's been doing since!

Last JuneRobin Hofstra from the Netherlands won our MTV Breaks director competition and got the opportunity to work at one of our biggest music events of the year - Isle of MTV Malta.

After being flown out to Malta, Robin's challenge was to direct a five minuteMTV video package all about what really goes on behind the scenes... and she did a BRILLIANTjob (check it out below)!

We caught up with her to find out what she's been getting up to since...

It’s been almost a year since you came to Malta as an MTV Breaks winner - does it seem like that long ago?

It feels like it happenedyesterday to be honest. From getting the phone call telling me that I won to flying to Malta and finally doing what I love to do at Isle of MTV Malta.I still watch thevideo over and over again. When watching the video we made, all these fun memories come back to me. I can´t believe it has already beenthat long ago!

What’s your fave Isle of MTV Malta memory?

My favourite Isle of MTV Malta memory isworking withthe MTV crew. They were all so nice to me, I felt like I wasa part of the MTV family.

I was afraid of people judging me because I was new to the crew and evennew to the industry. But everyone helped me outa lot and they were all so kind to me.

What have you been doing since? Are you still going down the same career path?

Currently I am finishing my internship in the Netherlands as an editor and producer. I have three months left until I graduate from school as an editor and camerawoman, which is very exciting!

ButI am not quitesure yet what Iwant to do after I graduate, but I am certain to continue as an editor or director. I will see what the future will hold.

What’s something that MTV Breaks taught you and how was it helpful?

MTV Breakstaught me that I can do anything I set my mind to. I worked hard with everyone and it really payed off, seeing our video on TV!Everyone believed in me and it gave me more motivation towork even harder.

Where do you want to be in five years time?

In five years I would love to be working as adirector or editor in different countries, travelling to different locations. Working together to realise a story, creating somethingpeople can relate to.I know I will be working hard to make my dreams happen!

Any advice for future MTV Breaks applicants?

Don´t be afraid to enter the competition, just be yourself. They are all so kind, they will see your passion and dedication to what you love. Show them what you can do and don't be afraid to share your thoughts.

I wish I could do it all over again!
