Where Are They Now?: Taleena Churchill
After being flown to Malta, Taleena's challenge was to open the festival with her very own DJ set... and she did an AWESOME job (check it out below)!
We caught up with her to find out what she's been getting up to since...
It’s been almost a year since you came to Malta as an MTV Breaks winner. Does it seem like that long ago?
I seriously can’t believe it’s been almost a year. It feels like yesterday I was in the most beautiful place in the world with the MTV crew, about to jump on stage and DJ to thousands of people!
What’s your fave Isle of MTV Malta memory?
The whole experience was just amazing. I can’t really say what my favourite part was but if I had to choose it would of course be when I opened the festival on the most beautiful, sunny day to 15,000 - 20,000 party people, spinning my favourite tunes!
What have you been doing since? Are you still going down the same career path?
Since Malta I have finished my first year at university doing a bachelors degree in Multimedia, majoring in Music Production and Programming. I’m now in my second year, but I’m also playing plenty of gigs and producing music on the side!
I was flown to the other side of my country to represent my state in a DJ competition a few months after Malta and played at the world’s largest toga party which was dope and such an amazing experience. I also played at my uni toga party only a few weeks ago with over 3000 students in a packed as convention hall playing non-stop wubs. I think I went deaf! Haha, joking… Hopefully.I also did an awesome interstate gig on NYE and I’ve been able to play gigs I’ve been aiming to do like playing at my fave club here on the Gold Coast, Elsewhere… so groovy you wouldn’t believe! I’ve supported some amazing artists since Malta but I don't think anything could beat playing at Isle of MTV Malta, supporting Wiz Khalifa and Steve Aoki. That was special.
What’s something that MTV Breaks taught you?
MTV Breaks taught me that anything is possible - just stay true, focus and never give up. The whole team gave me that motivation throughout the trip and made me feel as if my future was in the palm of my hands, and it really is! I have never been so happy and I am so glad I got to have the experience MTV Breaks gave me.
What do you think your future holds? Where do you want to be in five years time?
I would love to be travelling around the world performing my own music to people who love it just as much as I do. I want to share my specific sound and genres, my love for music, and be as influential to others as my inspirations have been to me. I want to be known as a really passionate artist and nothing less.
I’d love to hopefully come to the UK within the next five years to play and maybe even live over there… the UK music scene is insane and I feel like I belong there with my deep, underground tech and bass and jackin’ house tunes ha-ha! It’s a must!
Any advice for future MTV Breaks applicants?
JUST DO IT! You won’t know unless you try. Be true to yourself, stay ambitious and be persistent. I had the most amazing time of my life and I’ll never forget it.
Also, always put love and passion into your work because then you know it’s real.Stay tuned to MTV Breaks by following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and get the latest on our upcoming opportunities.
