Rudimental, Jess Glynne & More Send Thousands Crazy At MTV Crashes Plymouth 2016
Hoe-M-G what a show! Raleigh Ritchie, Jonas Blue and Anne-Marie helped make our third year probably the best ever…
Well, that was IN-CREDIBLE. MTV Crashes Plymouth returned for a third year to Plymouth Hoe and, dare we say it, it was probably our best yet!
Opening the show, MTV fave Anne-Marie lit up as she greeted the tens of thousands of faces in the crowd before kicking things off with her cracking new single ‘Alarm’. She treated us to some brand new music too, beaming as the crowd clapped along to 'Manakin', as well as dropping 'Gemini', 'Do It Right' and more.
Currently No.2 on the Official Singles Chart, DJ/producer Jonas Blue followed with a feel good, anthem-packed set of summer sizzlers including a special appearance from Dakota who opened the set with their epic reimagining of Tracy Chapman’s classic ‘Fast Car'. Rolling into TUNES from Calvin Harris, Michael Calfan and Watermat, he also slipped in his remix of Birdy's 'Keeping Your Head Up' before ending on his would-be-No.1-if-it-weren't-for-Drake new single 'Perfect Strangers' with a guest appearance from JP Cooper.
All round LOVELY guy Raleigh Ritchie was our third act of the evening, bounding across the stage like an excitable puppy treating us to tunes from his debut album including 'The Greatest', ‘Bloodsport’, and the powerful ‘Stronger Than Ever’.
Next up, taking the beautiful ‘sunset slot’, which in past years has seen The 1975 and Foxes rock the stage, Jess Glynne was the perfect penultimate act bringing her bundles of chart hits, igniting mass sing-alongs among the crowd. With a smattering of the rain, which dampened the up-for-it crowd a bit, the clouds parted for the 'Take Me Home' singer's set, to which she claimed "I think I might be magic." Maybe Jess!
Ending on the absolute high that is (one of her many) No.1's 'Hold My Hand', rainbow streamers exploded into the sky, setting the scene for our final act...
As night closed in, the BRIT Award-winning, Mercury Prize-nominated Rudimental hit the stage for the best bits from both of their chart-topping albums, including 'Right Here', 'Not Giving In' and 'Bloodstream'.
A familiar face from earlier in the evening, Anne-Marie drew mass cheers as she returned for 'Rumour Mill' with Will Heard and 'Love Ain't Just A Word' before every one threw their hearts up for their breakthrough No.1 'Feel The Love' brought the night to it's feel-good climax.
We want to say a massive thanks to the folks at Plymouth Council for letting us do our thing once again, to our Club MTV DJs R3WIRE & Varski who kept the energy sky high between sets and, of course, to all of you who came and partied with us down on the Hoe.
But that was only Day 1. Tomorrow we’re back when Club MTV returns from its debut last year, taking over the show with a salivating line up of dance gods including Afrojack, Example, Sub Focus, Tough Love and R3WIRE & Varski.
You’ll be able to watch highlights from Day 1 of MTV Crashes Plymouth next month on MTV Music!
