MTV Push Helsinki: Charli XCX, Becky Hill, Oliver Heldens & Redrama Rock Finland

Find out what went down at Thursday night’s big Finnish takeover with some of this year’s hottest music talents…

We’ve been sipping on a few more Red Bulls than usual today, after taking over Helsinki’s Circus venue with MTV Push on Thursday evening, bringing Charli XCX, Becky Hill and Oliver Heldens to the heart of Finland. Along with Finnish rapper Redrama - who is based in the city - the MTV Push gang played to a crowd of over 1000 local fans, who partied hard into the wee hours of Friday morning.

Ahead of the show we caught up with all of the acts, finding out everything from Charli’s ultimate ’90s style icons, to who Oliver’s been working with, why Becky’s not a material girl and just how Redrama is connected to the Backstreet Boys.

While our exclusive video interviews with all of the acts are on their way, for now you can see them pulling their best Blue Steel moves for photographer Jonangelo Molinari, in these striking stills taken before the show.

Moving on to the main event, Becky kicked things off in strong style, giving some seriously powerful vocals on her hits Afterglow and Gecko (Overdrive). Despite collaborating with Oliver on the latter, the pair only met for the first time a few hours before the MTV Push Helsinki show, with Becky greeting Oliver with a massive bear hug. Later joining him on stage to fully bring their track to life, we definitely felt a little Cilla Black slash Holly Willoughby for bringing them together – surprise, surprise, chucks!

Playing to his home crowd, Redrama had them entranced from the word go, backed by an impressive live band. Earlier in the day he told MTV, “I feel like now is a good time for me, I’m touring, I have shows coming up and I’m playing with a real band now, not just a DJ. It’s a really great experience.”

Next up, Charli XCX stayed true to her ’90s style favourites, making her entrance in a satin slip dress, platform sandals and – of course – sunglasses. Exuding sass, she worked her way through a hit-heavy set, including SuperLove, Fancy – minus Iggy Azalea – and I Love It, her massive Icona Pop anthem.

Boom Clap and a shower of confetti took us into Oliver’s closing DJ set, where fans danced to everything from Coldplay’s Sky Full Of Stars, to Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams.

Needless to say, ours were certainly sweet when we finally called it a night, the evening’s brilliantly eclectic mix of tracks still ringing in our ears.
