Lola Young: “The Most Pinch Me Moment Is Just The Fact That I'm Able To Do This”

Lola Young is killing the game right now! Currently on cloud nine after having her song in the John Lewis Christmas advert, Lola is now one of the incredible artists to be nominated for MTV PUSH UK & IRE 2022.

“It feels amazing to be nominated, for MTV Push 2022. Obviously, I’m just an up-and-coming artist and I’m very, very excited. It means massive amounts.”

On finding out she made the list, Lola said: “When I found out I was nominated, I think my manager must have called me. I can’t remember exactly where I was, but it just means a massive amount that, people elsewhere in the industry are, kind of, recognising me and just what I do and, it’s massively important to me, I guess.”

She also told us the journey of how she got into music: “So, I got into music when I was around, well, I started... the first instrument I took up was piano, and I started that when I was maybe... ten or eleven, I probably started playing the piano.

“From there I just, I was never good at properly learning, like, theory or whatever, so I just used to mess around with the chords and write lyrics and write melodies. And I started properly writing songs when I was around twelve or thirteen, and some of those songs I actually still play and perform now, which I guess probably quite young, but it just always came quite naturally to me, not in, like, a braggy way... and then, yeah, I just started gigging.”
