Get To Know: Rmarni

This week we introduce you to upcoming R&B artist Rmarni!

Inspired by the greats of R&B including Aaliyah, Brandy and Ashanti, Rmarni recently released her debut single ‘So High’ which is a great intro to the emerging artist. Her delicate vocals perfectly complement the minimalist production on the track. The result - a laid-back, effortless R&B performance perfect for a chilled summer’s day.

From Dudley, in the West Midlands, Rmarni is a multi-layered creative. Not only is she a beautiful songstress, but she also paints and films comedy sketches for her social media fanbase. Along with R&B, Rmarni mixes the sounds of afrobeats, neo soul, drill and others to create her unique take on the classic R&B style. With ‘So High’ being her debut, we’re really excited to see what else is to come from her in 2021.

Get To Know - Rmarni

1. For those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from…

My name is Rmarni. I’m a Dudley girl, which is a small town just outside of Birmingham. I CREATE.....Music. I am a singer/songwriter and all round creative. I love to express my thoughts and feelings and sometimes other peoples feelings through my music. Music has been a part of me since an early age and I am now ready to show the world what I have been working on..

2. Who/what inspired you to start a career in music?

I can remember from an early age listening to Whitney Houston and me and my cousins would have competitions on who can hold the note for the longest. So I would say it started there, but then you can fast forward to artists like Beyoncé, Aaliyah, Ashanti.....I always wanted to be Ashanti growing up. So I would say I was influenced by different music eras.

3.Who are your biggest musical influences?

I would have to say, Whitney, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Ashanti,Aaliyah SZA andearly 90s R&B.

4. Tell us about the writing and recording process of your new release…

'So High'was the first song I recorded for my upcoming EP.Most of my songs are born from realconversation. When I’m recording it’s usually pitch black in the booth. It allows me to create my own world and express myself freely.

5. What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

I think one highlight for me so far would behearing 'So High' on national radio for the first time. I’m like that’s MY voice....oh and another highlight is, seeing how everyone is responding to the song and video. I still can’t believe it.

6.Who would you be your dream collaboration and why?

It would have to be Drake. With Drake you have a super artist. I could do a slow R&B song with him, his melody choices are a such a vibe, but then he could jump on one of my uptempo songs and rap the hardest 16. The versatility. So Drake umm... Ha

7. Have you met anyone and been totally starstruck?

I haven’t met anyone that I’ve been starstruck by. But I’d like to meet Rihanna one day.

8.If you could only listen to one song on repeat for the rest of time what would it be and why?

Fabolous - 'So Into You'.

9. What’s on your playlists that people wouldn’t expect?

I would probably sayblink-182 'All the Small Things' and Vengaboys.

10.What can we expect from your live shows?

My live shows you can expect the unexpected. My live shows will be like friends coming together to vibe to their favourite music but with a twist. I’ll have my band. We have been working hard on my live show so I can’t wait to start performing in front of a live audience.

11. Have you got any fun livestreams/online events planned for this year? / When can we see you live?

I hope to start performing live during the summer when venues start to open again. This last year has been difficult for everyone but there’s now light at the end of the tunnel.I will also be doing some live acoustic and full band performances on my YouTube channel. So look out for that.
