Kwabs (MTV PUSH)

Born and raised in South London, 24-year-old Kwabs (a.k.a. Kwabena Adjepong) grew up listening to everything from blues to classic soul to alternative rock to electro-pop but Kwabs ended up blazing a new trail with his own musical style. ‘I always loved soul and gospel, but I thought it would be cool to apply that voice to a different backdrop,’ he explains. ‘I never wanted to do anything that was throwback or backwards-looking.’ With his strong baritone voice layered over synths and beats, Kwabs’ style is definitely unique and compelling. His 2014 single ‘Walk’ has gone on to become a hit across Europe, hitting the number 1 spot in Germany. He’s been raising his profile with headline shows and festival appearances at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds & Wireless and he made the BBC Music Sound of 2015 longlist. Kwabs describes ‘Walk’ as his ‘statement of intent’—and with his first full-length album coming soon, we’re guessing his intent is to become a major musical force.
