16 Life Changing Beauty Resolutions You Might Actually Keep In 2018
Easy peasy changes that will have big results
Not into the new year, new you mantra? Then how about making some New Year's Resolutions that you not only have a hope of keeping, but that will transform your beauty regime into something Zoella, Tanya Burr and the like would be proud of.
All of these are super easy and take nothing more than a little alteration to your everyday routine, but which will equally have huge affects on how you look and feel if you stick to them.
Ready? Let's DO this and make 2018 the most beautiful year yet.
First up check out ever selfie Kylie Jenner took last year...
1. Get your routine down
Cleansing, toning and moisturising every day and night will genuinely do wonders for your skin. Get into the habit and you'll never look back.
2. Be aware of what you're putting on your face
Just like organic food, there's a reason that more and more people are turning to organic and eco-friendly beauty products. If chemicals are something that concerns you, look out for products that state they are free from parabens.
3. Practice safe skincare
Kylie Jenner's New Year's rezzie last year was to put suncream on her hands and we have to say that the girl is onto something. If the idea of adding yet another lotion or potion into your skincare regime seems too much, just buy a moisturiser and body lotion with SPF already in it - just make sure it's over 30 SPF and offers broad spectrum protection to keep you safe from UVA and UVB rays.
4. Clean your phone screen
You know how they say about a billion bacteria live under your toilet seat? That's got nothing on your mobile, which is the one object we're guessing you have in your hands all day long, no matter how grubby of a location you're in.
This means it picks up loads of dirt and grime that might be invisible to the naked eye, but which will transfer straight onto your face when you put it up to your ear. An easy win is to have a little packet of antibacterial wipes in your bag and make a point of wiping down your phone once a day.
5. Invest in some brushes
Nothing will change your makeup application process more than a good set of brushes. There are brushes available for all budgets so there's no excuse not to do it.
Once you get them, you need to learn how to use them so get on YouTube and have a search for some tutorials to show you how to make the most of each and every one.
6. Give your hair a break
If you're guilty of overwashing, bleaching or straightening the hell out of your hair, make a resolution to give your locks a break this year. Heat and colour damage always shows in hair, making it look dry, frizzy and coarse so an easy win to help repair your hair and have it looking better than a prize-winning pony is to give it some time off.
If taking a few weeks off colouring or straightening isn't an option you could always book into your hairdresser for a deep conditioning treatment to renew moisture and help strengthen those battered ends.
7. Detox that makeup bag
We're all guilty of holding onto products and brushes that have maybe seen better days, but makeup has a shelf life and old products can harbour bacteria, so maybe give that beauty bag a wash and ditch the products you really don't need any more.
Old and clumpy mascara, eyeliners sharpened right down to the end and anything over a year old should all be chucked.
8. Don't sleep in your makeup
It's always tempting to throw yourself straight into bed after a night out, but schooling yourself into always taking time to remove your makeup is key.
A heavy layer of makeup not only blocks pores and makes you more susceptible to spots but will stop your skin from working its magic and reversing sun damage, stress and general wear and tear.
9. Know your buzzwords
Got blackheads? Then look for products that are non-comodogenics. Got oily skin? Then look for oil free formulas.
If you don't understand the claims of a product then Google them. Brands like to use a lot of fancy terms and often aren't as clear as they could be about exactly what their products do.
10. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Sloughing off dead skin cells gives you a natural boost of luminosity that will leave your skin glowing.
Plus your fake tan will last days longer if you exfoliate in advance, so we're all winners here.
11. Get your brows done by a professional
Even if you think you're a wizard with the tweezers, letting a professional shape your brows and show you how it's done once will be the lesson of a lifetime.
Whether you get a wax or have them threaded, once they are properly shaped once, you will be able to maintain them and live happily ever after and be on fleek forever.
12. Make note of what works
Loved that particular haircut or maybe noticed just how great you look in those pics from that party where you did your eyes all smokey? Then repeat them!
There's no crime in knowing what works for you and while experimenting is always good, it's nice to have a back up arsenal of looks and services you can rely on in emergencies.
13. Clean your brushes
You know those brushes we just told you to get? Well make sure you clean them. Just like you're grubby phone screen, repeatedly rubbing brushes on your face creates bacteria that'll live in your brushes unless you clean them.
To do so just massage in a gentle shampoo or proper brush cleanser if you're a moneybags, then rinse until the water runs clear.
14. Ditch the bad habits
It's an obvious one but eating your greens and drinking plenty of water will have a visible affect on your skin and general feeling. Aside from the obvious health risks, drinking and smoking will naturally have to opposite effect, so it might another reason to consider ditching those vices once and for all.
It's all about quality products, not quantity and hey, if anyone's going to tell you to treat yourself, it's going to be us.
16. Be healthy
If you feel good, then you look good and it's actually all as simple as that. Do what it is that makes you feel good inside and out, and remember that you are already pretty awesome, no matter whether you make or break every single one of these resolutions.
