6 Reasons Why Minnie Mouse Is Still Our Style Icon
Polka dots 4evz.
She's Minnie by name, but not by nature, and with fashionistas from Kate Moss to Perrie Edwards copying her style, we thought it was time to lay down all the reasons we are #OBSESSED with Minnie Mouse.
She owns more than 200 dresses
It’s no surprise Minnie has a wardrobe to rival Kim K’s since she’s collaborated with everyone from French fashion house Lanvin, to Brazilian shoe brand Melissa, and designers including Anna Sui (who created the most adorbs Minnie-themed make-up collection in 2013), Eleven Paris and Giles Deacon.
She even had her own OPI nail polish collection, for the ultimate Minnie #ManiMonday. Just this year Lauren Conrad, our fave from The Hills, created a whole line inspired by Minnie for American store Kohl’s, while Ashley Williams has designed a capsule collection based on the oh-so-chic mouse. Oh boy!
She’s Disney’s next top model
As well as acting and designing, Minnie also knows how to smize. She’s appeared in Vogue, walked the runway in Paris, and in 2013 she even bagged the cover of LOVE magazine alongside Georgia May Jagger and Cara Delevingne. We’re well jel.
Minnie and Mickey are #RelationshipGoals
Before John and Chrissy there was Mickey and Minnie. Like a real-life fairytale, the voice actors who played the cute couple – Russi Taylor and Wayne Allwine – were married IRL, right up until Wayne died in 2009. "We had the best time. We laughed a lot. We were always singing. We always had music in the house," Russi says of their relationship. Is it just us, or is someone chopping onions in here…?
Celebs are always stealing her style
Who needs flower crowns when you can have mouse ears? Kim K and North West wore matching lace versions by French designer Maison Michel when they went to Disneyland California for Nori's second birthday earlier this year, while Kate Moss opted for a pair of classic black ones with a red polka dot bow when she visited Disneyland Paris. And, don’t forget that famous shot of Madonna in the 1980s, wearing nothing in bed except a pair of Minnie Mouse ears.
She’s getting her own London Fashion Week exhibition
Mega Minnie fan Georgia May Jagger has teamed up with Disney and the British Fashion Council to curate a photography exhibition called Minnie: Style Icon, charting Minnie’s impact on the fashion world over the last 80 years. Taking place in London, it will include tons of famous Minnie-inspired pics like the Madonna one, as well as Jagger’s own photography efforts. "I’m really excited to be including my own photographic work in the exhibition, interpreting Minnie’s style in a different way," says Georgia.
She lives in Disneyland
Sure Paris, London, Milan and New York might have their own fashion weeks, but there is literally nowhere we’d rather live than the happiest place on earth.
Minnie: Style Icon takes place from 19th-20th September at Blacks Club on Dean Street in London. Tickets are free and you can book them at www.blacksclub.com.
