Gemma Collins Talks Leopard Print, Size Inclusivity And Life As The GC
Say hello to her third collection for boohoo.
Gemma Collins is a reality TV icon. Facts are facts.
After falling through the floor at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards, her epic yet short-lived stint on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, and slaying Celebrity Big Brother, the memay queen came to be and the internet simply wouldn’t be the same without her.
It looks as though there’s no slowing the queen down either as her relationship with boohoo is stronger than ever and she’s gearing up to launch her third collection with them. To quote the fabulous philosopher herself "you're obsessed with me and I love it."
We managed to snag a few hot minutes of Gemma’s time to chat about the collection, female empowerment and her boujee af future LA mansion where between you and us, we'll be spending all of our time at.
So Gemma, what's the inspiration behind your new boohoo collab?
You know what, boohoo captures my fabulousness and this is my third campaign and it’s the best one to date. Everyone is going to love, love, love it.
When designing the collection how did you want it to make women feel?
Totally empowered. I think the plus size fashion industry and movement has really upped its game this year and I do think I’ve got myself to thank for that.
The collection is size 6-24, why was it so important to make your collection size-inclusive?
Do you know why, when we launched the first collection we had so many girls messaging Boohoo saying ‘Oh I would love, love to wear Gemma’s stuff’ and I was like ‘Oh my god if that’s what they want let’s give it to them’.
boohoo are an amazing brand to work with and literally they have just been amazing and they are so behind The GC and they just get the concept, so I was like ‘let’s just do this collection for everyone.'
What is it you love most about working with boohoo?
They’re fun, they’re fabulous and the team are really behind me. The energy is on the right level – it’s always positive vibes.
With the collection taking inspiration from the greats, how does Marilyn Monroe inspire you personally?
Obviously she was beautiful, obviously she had curves – I’ve got a few more curves than Marilyn, hunny – but she’s an icon. She was fun, but she also had another side to her. She was Norma Jean. She was Marilyn. Then there’s Gemma and The GC.
Which pieces from the collection are you most excited about seeing people wearing?
I’m looking forward to the leopard print and the faux fur. It’s all just totally fabulous.
And there's loungewear this time around?
When I’m not filming I’m pretty much always walking around in loungewear or nice bedtime wear. I’ve got Arg, so I have to keep him entertained [laughs]. I just love glamourous sleepwear.
What are your festive style tips?
I’ve been wearing leopard print for years, I love it, I don’t need any excuse to wear it. Leopard print and pink are my favourite things to wear. When they hit the catwalks and high street this year, I was like ‘finally I’ve been talking about leopard print for years and everyone’s cottoned on.' One day I want my LA mansion and I will have leopards trolling the grounds.
It’s definitely going to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, my collection.
Thanks Gem!
