The 8 Golden Rules Of Dressing Like A Celeb For New Year's Eve
Inspired by the biggest celeb trends of the year
According to actual science, how you dress for New Year's Eve can actually affect your entire year. Whether or not you choose to believe that to be true, there's no harm in feeling like a billion dollars for however it is that you're planning to celebrate.
With that in mind, say goodbye to any party dress dlemmas and check out some top tips for nailing that NYE outfit, all of which are inspired by the biggest celeb trends we've seen on the red carpet this year.
1. Go big or go home (or at least stay at home in your onesie)
It's the start of the year, so this is the night to go all out. If you're umm-ing and ahh-ing over treating yourself then why not do it. The sales are on and now is the time to pick up a bargain, plus a new outfit can make things feel even more special.
2. No matter what you're wearing, be comfortable
Is there anything worse than getting an hour into a party and being in so much pain from your skirt cutting off your breathing/your shoes gouging holes in your feet that you physically can't think about anything else but that, let alone focus of the hottie chatting you up? No, no there is not.
If wearing trackies and fluffy slippers isn't an option for how you're celebrating, chuck a jumper and a pair of comfy flats in your bag for the journey home. Altenatively, just dress like this because it's festive AND you wouldn't even need to get undressed before getting into bed...
3. Rose gold. Just rose gold.
It's the colour of the season, so if you need a little inspo then why not work it into your look? Nothing jazzes up a classic LBD like a shot of metallic rose gold on your wrists or eyes (just check out Ariana below) and just in case you like the sound of that, check out the best rose gold makeup money can buy right here.
4. The more glitter the better
Forget worrying about your outfit being too much because if there's one thing you can't get enough of on New Year, it's glitter. Sequin dresses, sparkly makeup and shiny hair embellishments are go and if you need some inspo on that front, you might want to check this lot out.
5. Texture is key
Think high-waisted velvet skirts with ribbed turtle necks or super soft cropped knits paired with silky skirts. Winter is a time for embracing texture and pattern and is a super simple way to make a high street outfit look super luxe. Take Kim Kardashian and North West, who not only did super cute matching outfits for Christmas, but mixed up sleek braids with messy, fluffy jackets. Looked pretty bodacious while they were at it, too.
6. Covering up is the new sexy
If we've learnt anything from celebs hitting the red carpet in 2015, it's that there's nothing sexier than covering up. Whether that's in the form of a slinky midi slip or a high necked jumpsuit with cropped sleeves, a simple statement look like Selena's will make you stand out in the crowd of ladies with a load of leg and arms on show.
Plus there's also the fact that this way you won't need your thermal knickers on to stop you getting frostbite of the bum, which is always an added bonus.
7. Statement shoes are in
There's never been a better occasion to wear utterly ridiculous shoes, be that super high leopard print stillettos or shiny kitten heels covered in sparkly sequins and fluffy pompoms. If you're not into clashing it up, take the Kendall Jenner approach and keep your outfit super simple, letting your shoes add that killer bit of edge to your look.
8. You nailed it
Not into loud accessories? Then say it with your fingers and go hard on the high glitter shine and cute beaded extras like this.
