How To Use Less Plastic In Your Beauty Routine
We should all be mindful of using less plastic in our lives, it’s bad for the earth, bad for the ocean and in turn super bad for us. Youmight look odd whacking out your metal straw to go in your drink when you're out, but the environment will thank you.
An easy way to use less plastic is in your all-important beauty routine, so help the earth and take these easy steps...
But first, watch how a Lush Honey Brazened Face Mask is made...
1. Swap your wipes for a face cloth
Although the actually pads and wipes aren’t made of plastic, they normally come in plastic bags. So buy a washable face cloth to save those pennies and the earth.
2. Swap the shampoo bottle for a bar...
Ditch the plastic bottles and grab a Lush bar of shampoo which, like a bar of soap, lathers in your hand and feels just like regular shampoo. Plus, you use less because it’s doesn’t rush out the bottle in a squirt. Win.
3. Check out elate cosmetics
Elate Cosmetics is a toxin-free, vegan and cruelty-free range that uses wood instead of plastic for their packaging. Plus their eyeshadows and lipsticks are AMAZING.
4. Grab a new razor
Get rid of those disposable plastic razors and invest in a permanent steel one. They are a little sharper but give you a closer shave. Grown up AF.
5. Swap the conditioner bottle for a bar
Just like the shampoo bar, you can make your hair feel well soft with a bar of conditioner. Lush do some incredible smelling ones. So basically your hair is saving the earth.
6. Buy yourself a new deodorant
Companies like Earth Conscious have ditched the plastic packaging of regular deodorants and made deodorant in a tin with 100% recyclable tin. They even send it in a jiffy bag so it’s totally free of all things plastic.
7. Swap to bamboo brushes...
Brands like EcoTools have swapped plastics for materials like wood, bamboo and cardboard so you can feel like a saint whilst applying your contour.
8. Cut your plastic tubes open...
Even a tiny step like making sure you get all the product out of your tubes and bottles will help the pollution. Cut the tubes and scoop out the bits you can’t get from squeezing it. Plus it saves money so everyone likes that.
9. Chuck the applicator
There is always the option of using a menstrual cup which is re-usable and better for your body. But if that’s not for you then swap from pads and applicator tampons to non-applicator ones and ditch the plastic.
10. Splash out on glass
Glass packaging isn’t only fancy Nancy looking and makes you feel well boujie, but it’s also so much better than plastic. It basically means that the containers can be recycled or broken down over time.
And now check out behind the scenes at a Lush factory...
