The Most Googled Beauty Questions Of 2017 And How To Solve Them

Bet you've searched for these before

The beauty world can be a very confusing one to navigate if you don’t know your buffing brush from your beauty blender.

So it totally makes sense that there’s thousands of makeup-related questions googled on the daily, by people wondering what the heck they’re actually supposed to put where. Yep, we relate.

Before answering all of life's biggest questions, shall we go behind the scenes at the LUSH factory?

As 2017 comes to a close, Google has just released a list of the most searched terms from the yearjust gone -and it turns out that you’ve probably searched most ofthe beauty stuff yourself at some point.

Here’s the 10 most Googled beauty questions from this year, and how to solve every single one.

1.How to get rid of pimples?

If there was a simple answer to this then we'd all be spot free forever, but unfortunately pimples have a habit of being hard to kick and if you've tried EVERYTHING out there, you may need to talk to a dermatologist.

The best thing to do is develop a skincare routine that really works for you, starting with a good cleanser to get rid of makeup and impurities on your skin, followed by a combo of steps such as exfoliating, toning, serums and oils and moisturising.

If you're talking the occasional big red bad boy who's ruining your night out makeup, try an on-the-spot acne treatment like Clinique's Anti Blemish Cleaning Gel which can work wonders overnight.

2. How to get rid of back acne?

The majority of Under 25s (80 per cent, to be exact) will be stuck with some kind of acne at some point, and bacne is one of the most common and annoying forms.

If the curse of bacne is killing your confidence, you'll be glad to hear there's tons of products out there designed to get it sorted ASAP. You could give Paula's Choice Exfoliating Acne Body Spray a go, or the ProActive Clear Zone Body Pads which are made specifically for treating spots on your back.

Other top tips including keeping your hair up when washing to avoid shampoo clogging your pores, and using pH balanced products in the shower to try and soothe your skin a little.

3. How to take off acrylic nails at home?

If at all possible, always try and head back to the salon to get your acrylics taken off by a pro, but when you're stuck and there's no other option thenthere are methods you can try at home - but be prepared for your nails to take a battering.

First up, clip the nails down to a short length, and then file away the top layer of paint and as much of the acrylic as possible.

Apply Vaseline to the skin around your nails, and then wrap each finger in a cotton ball soaked with assetone. Wrap tin foil around the cotton wool to keep it in place for 30 minutes before drying and buffing off any leftover acrylic.

4. How to do eyeshadow?

It's definitely a question that's easier said than done - especially if you're after the Instagram MUA eyeshadow look. You need to think about priming your eyelids, colours to compliment your eyesand the type of brush you'll be using.

Try to go for a flat shader brush to apply a neutral base colour, a fluffybrush for softer blending in a crease colour, a packed, dense brush for any glitter application and an angled brush for adding in a smoked out liner look.

The most important tip to remember is probably BLEND, BLEND and BLEND SOME MORE. Andif you're completely stuck, YouTube is your BFF for tutorials that will take you from beginner to beauty guru in no time.

5. How to get rid of acne scars?

Acne scarring is a major struggle for loads of us, but you'll find that beauty salons everywhere offer treatments that can help including skin peels, microdermabrasion and micro-needling which can all help to resurface the skin for a smoother and more flawless look.

As for treating scars at home, look into acid toners like Pixi Glow Tonic and First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads and particularly those which contain Malic Acid and Lactic Acid for a helping hand with resurfacing.

And you probably don't need us to tell you this bit, but try your very best not to squeeze spots when they first pop up (no matter how tempting it is). Picking, poking or prodding will only lead to bigger scars that really don't wanna budge.

6. How to shrink pores?

It's time that we all learned once and for all that pores ain't doors, honey. They do not open and they do not close. Sure, you can unclog them with a good skincare routine, but there's not a lot you can do when it comes to physically shrinking them.

You might find that your pores feel less noticeable on your face if you're using the right products - specifically exfoliatingwith AHAs, BHAs and retinoids which are allpretty effective in making pores look less obvious.

If you wanna get scientific up in here, the opening of the pore is like a funnel soexfoliation (and sticking with a routine that works) willhelp toshed top layers of the skin andremovethe wider parts of the pore. Genius.

7. How to apply lipstick?

Again, when it comes to makeup advice and getting to grips with the basics, there's no better tool than YouTube tutorials.

A good YouTuber will be able to talk you through the methods from start to finish, and you can actually see them using all of their tips and tricks.

If you're looking for a few general rules though, prep your lips with a balm first, keep your lip liners sharp (and actually use them), use a lip brush for precise application and blot your first layer before applying a second for the long-lasting look.

8. How to get rid of under eye bags?

SLEEP IS YOUR FRIEND. As tempting as it might be to stay up 'til 3amscrolling through Instagram and watching weird videos of cats, sleep is super important for making sure your skin wakes up lookingrevitalised and healthy.

A hydrating eyecream like the Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment is a total must to brighten and improve the overall look, but we're afraidto tell you that, in general, dark circles do tend to just be a genetic thing. Soz.

Avoid caffiene, salt and alcohol, keep your immune system up, avoid sun damage and, aside from that, it's water. Drink ALL of the water.

9. How to exfoliate face?

If you're doing a good job with your exfoliating, it's gonna leave your skinrefreshed and soft as a baby's bum with a glow that JLo would be jealous of. If you're doing it wrong or too often, you could end up with red, raw and dehydrated skin that nobody's here for.

Depending on how fancy you want to get, there's a few options when it comes to ditching the dead skin every few days. You could dry a liquid exfoliant with AHAs and BHAs like Clarins Gentle Exfoliator, or a more phsycail exfoliant likePurifying Facial Exfoliant Paste fromAesop.

If you're feeling extrayou could invest in a facial brush like the Clarisonic, but remember that the brushes of these are already an exfoliator - you DON'T need to double up.

10. How to apply highlighter

It's not a surprise to see this one in here - 2017 has been T-H-E Year of The Highlighter, mainly thanks to Instagram. For a lit-from-within glow, you want to apply your chosen highlight on the high points where the light would hit your face.

Use a soft, fluffy brush for soft application and apply it to the bridge of your nose, your cheekbones, your brow bone or your cupids bow - and make sure it's blended for a pro finish.

If you want that on point, wet metallic look then boost a cream or liquid highlighter by applying a powder version just over the top. Happy glowing.
