Underlights Are The Secret Rainbow Hair Trend You Can Get Away With At School And Work

Sneaky and seriously pretty.

As much as we'd all like to dye our hair to look like a pastel-coloured unicorn, we can't all be Michael Clifford and some of us have strict dress codes we have to adhere to in day to day life.

But that no longer means you have to miss out on all the fun thanks to a brand new colouring trend that will let you get in on a rainbow dye job, but also means you're able to sneakily cover it up when you need to.

Much like Fat Amy and her 'business in the front, party in the back' style do, the underlights trend basically involves you splitting your hair into two clear layers. While you leave the top layer your natural colour, you dye the under layer any colour of the rainbow you fancy.

Then all you need to do is tie the top layer up in a hun-style bun to show of your prettily coloured locks.

Equally, if you need to hide it, you just let the top layer down and voila, it all looks pretty natural.

It might be the latest in about a million hair colour trends, but the underlights trend issweeping Instagram right now and you can totally see why as it's a totally practical way to try a tumblr style hair do without the full committment and possibility of getting yourself a detention.

While you can of course go a bit more obvious and let your colours shine through, the more subtle colouringalso looks seriously pretty when you tie your hair up in a ponytail and get a hint of the coloured tones shining through.

You can also go even further and try the hair tattooing trend, but hide it away so that no one can see it unless you want them to.

And if intense colour isn't your thing, it also looks bodacious when the underlights are done in a seriously subtle shade, like this rose gold effect being offset by ablonde top layer.

So cute. But what do you reckon - would you try the underlighting trend? Let us know with a tweet over @MTVStyleIntl way.
