Sara Sampaio: 'This Victoria's Secret Angel Prefers Pizza, Pancakes & Skittles!'

And you thought models existed on a diet of fresh air...

By Portis Wasp

With only two black and white group photos and the hashtag #TheNewestAngels, Victoria’s Secret broke the internet two weeks ago, when they confirmed on Instagram the 10 angelic faces that had earned themselves a pair of wings and one of fashion’s most coveted modelling contracts.

Due to Karlie Kloss and Doutzen Kroes both hanging up their wings, the super sexy underwear brand have had their work cut out in assembling a heavenly gaggle of new faces (or Avengers?), to compliment existing Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, and Behati Prinsloo on the catwalk.

A tall ask, but then in walks Sara Sampaio – one of Victoria’s Secret’s 10 newest Angels – and we’re all like, yup, she could totally defeat Ultron all by herself if she could be bothered.

MTV Style: Congratulations on being named as one of Victoria's Secret’s new Angels, Sara! You must be super excited?

Sara Sampaio: Thank you, yes I'm very excited. It's been surreal – it doesn't even feel real. I'm so happy as it has been a dream of mine since I started modelling.

MTV Style: Where were you when you found out you’d earned yourself a dope pair of wings?

Sara: I think I was home. You would think I'd remember exactly where I was on such an important day, but it's very cloudy. It was dream-like and almost feels like it didn't happen. But I remember what my agent said: 'Have you heard? No one told you yet? VS want you to be an Angel!' I couldn't believe it.

MTV Style: Amazing. Out of the other nine girls to earn their Angel wings with you, who are you most likely to be seen sharing a heavenly cloud with?

Sara: I'm actually very good friends with most of them. I've worked a lot with Elsa while we were both doing VS Pink and we get along well. I've known Lais the longest – we have a lot of friends in common and we speak the same language. I alsospend time with Jasmine and Stella. The best part is we shot the Body By Victoria campaign together, so we really got to know each other well, and they are all amazing.

MTV Style: So tell us, how does an Angel like yourself like to start her day?

Sara: I like to start my day after noon. I’m not a morning person at all! So I wake up, eat pancakes and go for a walk with my puppy.

MTV Style: You sound like our kind of Angel! Here in the UK we've been lead to believe from an early age, through the power of advertising, that the main staple of an Angel’s diet is Philadelphia cream cheese spread. Can you confirm if this is true?

Sara: This Angel prefers pizza, pancakes and Skittles!

MTV Style: And what about a freshly-made pastel de nata?

Sara: I'm going to be a very bad Portuguese right now – I'm actually not a fan of pastel de natas. I'm just not a fan of cream. My guilty pleasure is definitely candy! Skittles are my favourite.

MTV Style: More for us, then! Aside from working for Victoria’s Secret, what has been the most fun job you’ve booked so far?

Sara: Every job is different, but one of my favourite jobs was in Hawaii a few years ago. It's my favourite place on earth and it was such an incredible trip. I've had a lot of incredible shoots - there’s too many to choose from!

MTV Style: If you could book any dream job tomorrow, what would it be?

Sara: I’d definitely love to be a spokesperson for a major beauty brand. Aside from becoming an Angel, this has been another dream of mine. Hopefully I'll be able to achieve this soon too. Fingers crossed.

MTV Style: We saw on your Instagram that you shot with iconic male hottie Tony Ward last week. Just a normal Tuesday for you, was it?

Sara: I don’t shoot with males often so it was a fun experience. Tony was incredible and such an amazing professional.

MTV Style: So this is random, but we read that you’re a brown belt in karate? How dangerous does that make you on a scale from one to Licence to Kill?

Sara: A brown belt is one belt away from a black belt. I got very bored of it and Ididn’t enjoy it anymore. I enjoyed the kata part of Karate, which is a choreography of movements. That was my strength and I actually won a few trophies. I don't know how dangerous I am, but I think I can probably kick someone's butt, though I’m also a baby when it comes to pain.

MTV Style: We have to talk about that photo you shared on Instagram of yourself and Emily Ratajkowski wearing matching orange dresses at a Sports Illustrated launch! Fellow attendees must have literally been falling at your feet...

Sara: Emilyand I found out the afternoon before the event that we had the same dress. Neither of us had a spare, so instead of making it awkward we just decided to bring on some women power, and embrace it together. Everyone was loving it and it turned out to be a great night.

MTV Style: And is Emily the perfect date?

Sara: Of course she is! Besides being extremely gorgeous (obviously), she's very smart and interesting to talk to.

MTV Style: More importantly though, can you confirm if orange IS the new black?

Sara: Black will always win! Like they say, 'I'll stop wearing black when they create a darker colour.'

MTV Style: No colour could ever compare with your love for Pink though, right?

Sara: I of course love the colour pink (for many reasons), but not so much when it comes to my wardrobe. I'm more of a red fan. Red lips and a nice red dress = killer!

MTV Style: Before you go, we'd love if you could give us some tips on how to master the art of walking in public and looking beyond hot while doing it?

Sara: It's all about confidence. It's all about loving yourself. If you're not comfortable in your own skin there's no make-up, dresses or shoes that will change that. Wear what you love and what makes you feel good.
