MTV News: Nas Live
Our man Rickie catches the legend proving Hip Hop aint dead and slating 50 Cent
It was a massive roadblock affair at Hammersmith Apollo last night (Tues May 22) for the only London gig included on the Nas European Tour.
Fans queued patiently for around two hours to get to see the Hip Hop Superstar as the show start time continued to get put back later and later into the evening.
Once inside I decided to ditch my designated seat on the balcony and get in amongst it with all the real fans in the pit, I mean come on this was NAS right?!!!
After a short wait with Hypemen crossing the stage, the lights cut out, spot lights appeared, followed by a massive explosion noise from the heavy duty sound system.
The stage lit up, and Nas, the man behind so many classic rap tracks, was there!
Dressed in all white with his trademark Rope Gold Chain, he started his set with his most recent solo anthem: Hip Hop Is Dead and the crowd went wild.
He followed it straight up with his much hyped collaboration with Jay-Z- Black Republican - it was a great intro to the new album.
After that Nas shouted to the crowd: F**k motherf**king 50 Cent!"
Indicating his dislike of the mainstream commercial side of Hip Hop which he feels has forgotten the forefathers of the genre and fuelled his dramatic album title.
In the set he performed almost every hit he's ever released and many of his underground classics too. New York State Of Mind, Nastradamus, Hate Me Now, World Is Yours, Street Dreams and many more were in there.
In typical Nas style, he expressed his stance on politics after his 'If I Ruled The World' stating that if he did in fact he would offer George Bush's head to the UK on a Silver Platter.
Obviously this was met by thunderous applause from the crowd.
This was definitely an event for true Nas fans with a lot of the scenes top DJ's representing in full force....oh, and us at MTV News of course.
