Iconic Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher has died at the age of 60.
Fisher was taken ill after suffering a cardiac arrest on a flight from London to LA on Friday, and has been in hospital since. But a family statement said with "deep sadness" that she passed away on Tuesday morning
While her most recognisable role was as that of Princess and then General Leia in the Star Wars movies, she had a hugely successful career as an actor and writer, most notably starring in films such as When Harry Met Sally and The Blues Brothers, TV shows such as Catastrophe and Family Guy, and working as a script doctor on huge films like Hook, Sister Act and Lethal Weapon 3. She also wrote four novels and three memoirs.
Fisher was also an outspoken and hugely empowering spokesperson for mental illness, and frequently talked about her own experience with bipolar disorder and drug addiction.
The celebrity world has reacted in shock and sadness to her death.
