Disney And Ice Cube Are Planning An Oliver Twist Remake
Please sir, can we have some more Oliver Twist?
More? MORE? Yes, we want more big-screen musical action, and Disney is apparently going to give it to us, with the studio planning to bring a new version of Oliver Twist into our lives.
Better still, they’re doing it in partnership with Ice Cube, who will both co-produce and star in the new film!
If that sounds mental (and it definitely does), Hamilton director Thomas Kail is also set to bring some Tony award-winning chops to the table, while Wicked alumnus Marc Platt will also be co-producing with Cube.
Which is all well and good, but it still won’t stop us hoping for a gang of Dickensian urchins singing F*ck Tha Police…
The new film will apparently be inspired by a number of different genres, and there will be a healthy hip-hop influence in there, so we might not be too far out with that fantasy.
No casting has been confirmed as yet, but it’s thought that Cube is in line for the Fagin role, which would frankly be brilliant.
It’s still early stages for this one, with a first draft of the script currently being penned and no release date in place. Dickens meets NWA? We never knew we wanted it, but now we don’t want anything else...
