The dashing actor is in preparation for his role as Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: Apocalypse - and director Bryan Singer shared the snap of his star getting shorn.

McAvoy plays the younger version of the character made famous by Sir Patrick Stewart - but until now has got away with keeping his hair long.

Singer has been teasing fans with a series of snaps from the set of the new movie, including one of Sophie Turner and Lana Condor in costume as Jean Grey and Jubilee.

Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Hugh Jackman will all reprise their roles in the film, which is set for release in May next year.
