Avengers: Age Of Ultron director Joss Whedon has quit Twitter following a backlash over Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.
Some fans of the Marvel movie have criticised Whedon for using Scar-Jo’s character as a typical ‘damsel in distress’ during Age Of Ultron.
While Joss didn’t reference the criticism when quitting the social-networking site, he seemed to imply his reason for leaving was down to the Avengers sequel finally being released worldwide.
In two final messages to his 1.15million followers, Whedon wrote: “Now I may me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep If I should die before I wake 'kay.
“Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here."
The 50-year old filmmaker is yet to say anything else about leaving the world of Twitter behind.
Meanwhile, Avengers: Age Of Ultron continues to dominate the box office, with the flick netting the second-largest opening weekend ever in the US, and making $630m so far globally.
Who needs Twitter, eh Joss?
