7 Of The Best Multiplayer Games To Play With The Fam This Christmas

Even your nan can play these party games.

If you're hoping for some uninterrupted gaming time this Christmas but are afraid those pesky family commitments may get in the way, why not get your family involved, too? While it's true you might not be able to convince Grandma to grab the controller and jump straight into Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, there are loads of fantastic family-friendly games to break out instead!

Here are our picks of the best fam-favourite games to get your whole family gaming this Christmas...

1. Overcooked (1 or 2 - both are awesome!) (PS4, Xbox One, Switch)

While it might take a little while to get accustomed to the controls - not to mention the absolute chaos on screen! - Overcooked is one of those games where you can't help but have a good time. With opportunities to play both with and against your pals and family, right now the mayhem-packed cooking caper is one of our favourite co-op games of all.

2. Fortnite (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mac, mobile)

Not all the family can be together at Christmas, especially if you have loved ones overseas or on the other side of the country, so what's better than spending a little quality time together in everyone's favourite battle royale? You can show off to your family why Fortnite is still the biggest game on the planet, and include your missing family members or pals in your family festivities via party chat!

3. Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo Switch)

Super Mario Odyssey is thought by many to be one of the greatest games ever made, and you might think so too if you jump on this Christmas. Stuffed with Nintendo's cheeky charm and intuitive controls, anyone can pick-up-and-play Odyssey, no matter how much gaming experience they have. Best of all, the Nintendo Switch is completely portable, so if you're off to a family night at your aunt's house or dinner at your grandparents, take it with you and show off your platforming prowess no matter where you are!

4. Pokemon Go (Mobile)

Want to work off all those treats this Christmas? Yup, us too! That's why we'll be picking up Pokemon Go and fighting all that chocolatey excess in the best way we know how. Not only is getting out and about a great way to keep in shape and be active during the cold, slovenly holidays, it'll also give you chance to chat with your family and enjoy some winter sunshine. Don't forget you can even hatch eggs and count steps without keeping the app open now, too, so you don't even have to worry about conserving your battery power. Seriously - what are you waiting for?!

5. Minecraft (Like, literally every platform)

If you thought everyone's stopped playing Minecraft to jump into a little battle royale with Fortnite, you're sadly mistaken. Available on pretty much every platform there is, Minecraft is the perfect way to unwind and spend a few hours flexing your imagination. You could hold building competitions, take on creepers, or just wander around and take in the sights. The perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Christmas!

6. Assassin's Creed Odyssey (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

If you have family members who just want to watch you play rather than actively take part, why not open a big, open world like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and show them the wonders of ancient Greece? Yes, there can be violence so it's not exactly suited for everyone, but there are plenty of sideand main-story missions that show off Ubisoft's incredibly beautiful, detailed, living world. Why not hold an in-game photograph competition, or see who can find the most unusual animals? You can even spend a lazy hour or two just running around, soaking up missing collectibles.

7. Just Dance 2019 (PS4, Xbox One, X360, Switch, Wii U, Wii)

While we don't necessarily recommend this directly after the turkey dinner, Just Dance 2019 is a fab way to have a laugh, listen to awesome tunes, and work off the excesses of the season. There's dances for all kinds of bodies and abilities, so everyone really can participate. It's the perfect way to get some activity and work those muscles within the comfort of your own home - so there's no excuse not to get involved!
