How To Live Your Best Mamma Mia! Life On A Luxury Greek Holiday

Music, gorgeous food, stunning scenery and ALL THE HAPPINESS...

ICYMI, Mamma Mia! is somewhat of a phenomenon.

Whether it’s the original movie breaking records (it's the biggest selling DVD in the UK ever), Cher’s cover album ‘Dancing Queen’ breaking records (it was her highest debut sales week for an album in the US ever), or Pierce Brosnan breaking ear-drums, it’s become a bonafide global hit.

And while all the songs are karaoke gold, and the actors pretty gorge, it’s the locations that truly have us swooning.

The movies were shot on Vis (yup, that’s Croatia even though the whole movie’s set on a Greek island), which has – quelle surprise – become overrun with tourists.

So we’re here to recommend an alternative that boasts all the sun, music, happiness and downright loveliness of the movies, and with none of the naff Abba B-Sides - introducing the Grecotel Corfu Imperial, a five star resort that’ll have you living the life of a Hollywood starlet…

Complete privacy and (affordable) luxury

You know how the cast of Mamma Mia! seem to have the entire island to themselves, to warble, dance and twirl to?

Well you can experience the closest thing with a stay at the Grecotel, situated as it is on the exclusive Kommeno peninsula – a secluded hideyway housing three Grecotel hotels.

The views are stunning on either side (turquoise waters for days), there are a host of beaches, and depending on the type of accommodation you plump for, you can garner complete privacy.

MTV stayed in a waterfront villa, with its own pool, access to a secluded beach, views across the bay to the old town, and opulence aplenty.

Wine + fruit mountain upon arrival x stunning views = never coming home.

Explore a real life movie and TV set

When it comes to USPs, Grecotel has a truly unique one – compelte ownership of a bonafide movie and TV set.

Introducing Danila Park and Museum, a replica of a traditional 1930s Corfiot village. Open to visitors as a local theme park, it’s also used for movie and TV shoots (ITV’s ‘The Durrells’ and the James bond film ‘For Your Eyes Only’ have both used it), and private hire (weddings etc).

It’s surreal and kinda wondrous to walk around a ghost town, with a stunning church, traditional café, tavern square and village square all to explore.

Get your pamper on

A newly renovated spa area ensures that you’ll feel every inch the dreamboat after taking your pick from an array of relaxing, soothing treatments.

An indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym with stunning views out across the super-green scenery all come as standard, but it’s the signature Elixir treatments that’ll have you dribbling into your pillow with pleasure.

MTV opted for a 60” back ritual, which used self-heating oligo-active mud to soothe aching muscles and leave us chill af.

Get serenaded on the waterfront

Look, we can’t all croon like Cher, Meryl and co, but Grecotel has the next best thing – local performers who regularly swing by to serenade you whilst you dine, relax, and sip drinks by the pool under the stars.

If that sounds dreamy, it’s because it totally, totally is.

During the long weekend we were there, we had a saxophonist perform over breakfast, while dusk turned to twilight to the tunes of an Il Divo tribute band, covering all manner of classic songs in typically operatic style.

What’s a dreamy Greek holiday without a mountain of dreamy Greek food?

With six dining options to choose from, you (and your stomach) are going to be spoiltfor choice. The resorts stand-out NOM options are undoubtedly ‘Aristos’, an a la carte dining experience crafted by Michelin-starred chef Thanos Feskos.

Topnotch wine compliments drool-worthy meals, and you’ll be shouting Mamma Mia! (#sorrynotsorry) in delight with every bite.

Or why not opt for a meal at ‘Yali’, a seafood restaurant quite literally on the ocean. With panoramic views back on the sparkling lights of the old town, fresh fish aplenty, and tables perched on a deck above the water, it’s as Greek-island-dreamy as they come.

'MTV Travelled With… Corfu Imperial Grecotel Resort, who offer rooms starting at €221 per night for two. Kids up to 14 stay free in parent's room. They also have an array of offers, including 10% during October Half Term, and a 20% discount for advance purchases.'
