Alice In Wonderland has held off tough competition from Leonardo Dicaprio’s Shutter Island to hang on to the UK box office crown for a second week.

Tim Burton’s take on the Lewis Carroll classic has taken over £7.3 million - twice as much as Martin Scorcese’s psychological thriller Shutter Island in second place with £2.25 million.

Bourne movie team Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass’ hook-up Green Zone completes the top 3 UK films taking just over £2 million in ticket sales.

James Cameron’s alien epic Avatar slipped to forth place after dominating the box office chart for months.

Burton's 3D fairytale, which stars Johnny Depp continues its world box office domination, hitting the top spot in the US as well as Australia.
