The last two American Idol contestants for 2009 Adam Lambert and Kris Allen have had their penultimate chance to impress judges and the public before today’s final.

The rivals performed three songs each on the Fox show including the winner’s single No Boundaries.

Kicking off Lambert performed Tears For Fears’ classic Mad World- which originally helped get him noticed on the show. It prompted judge Kara DioGuardi to call him an “incredible artist.”

Allen then performed his version of Bill Withers’ Aint No Sunshine which both Randy and Kara said was one of the best performances of the season.

In round two of the show the finalists performed songs picked for them by American Idol creator and Spice Girl svengali Simon Fuller. Adam Lambert ran through A Change Is Gonna Come while Kris sang Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On?

Finally the pair performed No Boundaries- which will be released by whoever wins tonight.

Former Idol winner Carrie Underwood closed the show singing Motley Crue’s Home Sweet Home.
