Beyonce has hit back at a fake recording of her singing in off-key.

The recording, which was a reported board mix from Beyonce’s performance on The Today Show apparently showed the singer wailing along to hit record If I Were A Boy.

The alleged performance was then leaked onto the internet and even got a play on American radio stations on Wednesday.

Beyonce’s father, Matthew later claimed that anyone who believed the botched recording was his daughter was an ‘idiot.’

Admitting the joke had gone too far, the unknown prankster came forward to TMZ stating: "It's a little bit crazy. No one in their right mind would sound like that, and no one would cheer for someone singing like that."

The singer, who stars as soul legend Etta James in film Cadillac Records, doesn’t seem too bothered by the prank insisting: "Everyone's heard me sing and it's perfect timing, actually, because I'll be on the Today show tomorrow singing Halo."

She added: "Tonight, you can watch me sing live on David Letterman! It's perfect promotion, whoever came up with that idea."
