Cher Lloyd may be pop music's answer to Marmite, but singer/songwriter Emeli Sande has exclusively told MTV.co.uk that she "really loved" meeting the notoriously bolshie star.
Sande - who is currently battling it out with Wretch 32 for this week's Official Singles Chart No.1 - shed some light on what it's like to work with Cher, after the The X Factor singer recorded one of her tracks, Lifetime.
When asked about her meeting with Lloyd, Sande revealed: "She came to the studio and it was the day of The Royal Wedding. I think she thought I was a bit of a weirdo because I was like 'we need to watch this' - she didn’t really care."
She continued: "Cher was a lovely girl and I really enjoyed meeting her. She just kind of got the song right away and she sang it really well. I just knew that it was for her and I’m excited to hear what people’s reactions will be."
Emeli then went on to address some of the negative press Cher has received off the back of her debut single, Swagger Jagger, stating that despite her criticism, she has nothing but respect for the 18-year old.
The Heaven singer claimed: "I really loved meeting her and she’s herself – that’s what I respected about her. She really puts herself out there and doesn’t really care too much whether people like her. I just think that’s really great."
She added: "She truly believes in what she’s doing and she’s putting herself out there for rejection and not many people chase their dreams. I respect her, some people like her and some people don’t, what are you gonna do?"
