Cheryl Cole is so determined to complete her second solo album that she plans to fly to Los Angeles during X Factor to work on it.

According to reports, Simon Cowell has agreed to let Cheryl base herself in LA for the ‘judges' houses’ stage of X Factor, so she can nip into the studio in her downtime.

“Cheryl is champing at the bit to make more music so she's doing everything to fit in sessions,” an insider said. “The X Factor contestants she mentors will probably be flown to LA for boot camp so she can spend even more time making tunes.”

The follow-up to 3 Words is expected to include collaborations with Starry Eyed singer Ellie Goulding, Bleeding Love songwriter Ryan Tedder, and Cheryl’s Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts.

In other Cheryl news, she turned 27 on 30 June and, according to reports, rumoured boyfriend Derek Hough had a hard time finding a gift good enough for the girl who has everything.

The dancer bought Cheryl an antique gold necklace but was concerned it wasn’t enough. But he couldn’t have been more wrong. According to a source close to the couple, her favourite ever gift from Derek was a simple bunch of flowers. A source told Now magazine: “He once gave Cheryl a small bouquet of wild flowers, which she thought was much more thoughtful than predictable roses.”
