The 50-year old is said to have spent hours by Cheryl's bedside since the Parachute singer was rushed to hospital on Sunday after collapsing at a photo shoot.

Cheryl, who is believed to have caught the deadly disease while on holiday in Tanzania with her dancer pal Derek Hough has spent three days in intensive care battling the illness.

Dancing With The Stars ace Derek visited Cheryl on Tuesday where he reportedly emerged from the hospital 'looking worried.'

Friends of the X Factor judge have claimed that Cole 'feels like death' and is 'very tearful'.'

Malaria specialist, Martin Wiselka has warned Cheryl - who recently filed for divorce from love rat Ashley Cole - that she may not be able to work for up to six months.

Wiselka stated: "With malaria you nearly always get a fever. She will feel rough, like she has bad flu - tired and sweaty. If it's bad it affects all your body and organs, including your heart. It takes two weeks for symptoms to develop from the mosquito bite."

The Fight For This Love singer was said to have been taking malaria medication when on holiday in Africa's East Coast, but still caught the disease.

Dr Wiselka added: "In the UK malaria affects around 1,500 people a year. Most have the more serious strain. It is not yet known which Cheryl has.

"Most cases require two to three days in hospital. Within a week Cheryl should have got rid of the malaria if it was caught quickly."

Simon Cowell has since confirmed that Cheryl will not be participating in the remaining live X Factor auditions.
