Cheryl Cole is reportedly worried her battle with malaria will affect her singing voice.

Earlier this month, the Girls Aloud beauty lost her voice for five days as she fought the deadly disease, and now sources close to Chezza have revealed the 3 Words singer fears she won't be able to perform again.

The Sun reports the X Factor judge, who is being looked after at the home she once shared with estranged hubby Ashley Cole by her mum Joan, pal Derek Hough and a private nurse is drinking hot water with honey, cinnamon and lemon to try and repair her vocal cords, ahead of her return to the stage.

A source told the tabloid: "Doctors have told her that it will come back, but she's full of worry,"

Chezza's X Factor boss Simon Cowell revealed earlier this week that the 27-year old star is bored and looking forward to returning to work after being hit with the tropical illness.

Meanwhile, Cheryl's rumoured beau Derek has been described as a 'guardian angel' by his childhood friend, Mark Ballas.

Speaking to heat magazine Hough's pal claimed: "He's helping Cheryl through a rough patch - he's very caring like that…Derek is really compassionate."

Mark added that he is 'delighted' Hough is seeing the Parachute hit maker, especially from a professional perspective as well as for his personal life.

He stated: "It's been great for Derek because he's been able to show off his brilliant skills as a choreographer and work with her and the Black Eyed Peas."

Ballas continued: "What Cheryl has accomplished is also awesome - it's great for him to be a part of that."
