Cheryl Cole’s forthcoming single Promise This is an up-tempo track which celebrates her victory over malaria.

Although the song was written before her battle with the disease, Cheryl chose it as the lead single from her forthcoming album because the lyrics took on a new meaning for the star following her recovery. The Parachute singer spent 10 days in hospital, including several in intensive care, after picking up the disease on a trip to Tanzania with Derek Hough in June.

A source explained: “Cheryl's comeback single is called Promise This. It was actually written months ago and although it's not directly talking about her illness, there is a strange lyrical twist that ironically relates to her recent near-death experience. It is similar to the way Fight For This Love related to her marriage drama.”

It’s thought the Geordie star will film the video for Promise This in Los Angeles this week and will perform the single on X Factor. "A release date hasn't been confirmed for the single but there's talk Cheryl could perform on the second live show after Joe McElderry,” an insider revealed.

“It's a huge comeback track and Cheryl absolutely loves it. There's a lot of pressure on her to follow up her first album with another multi-platinum seller. But everyone agrees she is back with her best material yet.”
