According to Now magazine, the Parachute singer was told by doctors that her diet was 'terrible' and she has to change the way she eats.
A source told the celeb mag: "Before she got sick, Cheryl's diet was terrible. She used to skip meals and was so busy with work that she never had time to think about food, she'd even smoke instead of eating."
"Cheryl's doctor told her that she needs a lot more protein, which is a challenge for her as she's basically a vegetarian."
They added: "But she does eat fish, so she's been eating a lot of that - and vegetable risotto is also a current favourite."

However, Chezza appears to be ignoring doctors warnings after hitting the gym just four weeks after getting the all-clear from the tropical illness.
Adding to speculation that Cole is doing too much too soon, she was spotted leaving a dance studio in Los Angeles yesterday - where she had been rehearsing for four hours.
Cheryl is expected to film the video for her new single, Promise This next week which could be the reason for the four-hour dance rehearsal.
