Will.I.Am has been drafted in to give Cheryl Cole’s Messy Little Raindrops album a more American feel.

Universal, the Promise This singer’s record label, wants the album overhauled before it is released in the United States in the summer. The Black Eyed Peas frontman, who produced tracks on both of Cheryl’s UK releases, has been instructed to give the album a more urban vibe.

A source said: "The record company are really keen to spice up a few of the songs and get some remixes on the album. Will is going to work his magic by giving the tracks more of an R&B feel as he knows that's what will sell."

The Sun reports that the revamped album may include a new collaboration with Black Eyed Peas, giving Cheryl’s goal of breaking America a further boost. Of course, the new version of Messy Little Raindrops will also get a UK release.

It’s thought that Universal is also planning a gruelling cross-country promo schedule for the Geordie once the album goes on sale Stateside, including a signing tour in all the major US cities.
