Cheryl Cole has been told she is unlikely to get a job on The X Factor USA, according to reports.
Simon Cowell apparently feels guilty about letting Cheryl down, but was forced to admit this week that he was having trouble convincing Fox TV bosses that the Geordie was a big enough name for the series. Instead, Simon may give her a smaller role on the show as his offsider during boot camp.
“She was very upset,” an insider told The Mirror. “But all he kept saying was, ‘Please leave it with me’. He adores Cheryl and doesn’t want to let her down, but is under enormous pressure to get the right line-up to attract viewing figures up to the 30 million mark.”
The Fight For This Love star is determined not to let the setback stop her from succeeding in the US. “She’s ready to give America her best shot and that may or may not include being on the X Factor out here. As far as she’s concerned she just wants to know the truth instead of being used as the pawn to get publicity for the show,” the source explained.
To make it up to Cheryl, Simon is said to have offered to double her salary on the UK judging panel, meaning she will earn £2m for this year’s series. Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh, meanwhile, have reportedly been offered £1.25m to reprise their roles.
