SiCo could offer Chezza a consolation role...

The X Factor USA boss Simon Cowell could land Cheryl Cole a 'consolation role' as a mentor on the show if her bid to become a judge fails.

As previously reported, Cowell has been having a tough time convincing Fox TV bosses that Cheryl should be on the judging panel for the show, as there have been concerns she isn't a big enough star in the US.

"Every day it looks more and more unlikely that Cheryl will get her dream job - so Simon is looking at alternatives," a source has told The Sun.

"The mentor role is one idea. She knows what it's like to audition as she was discovered on Popstars: The Rivals."

Even if she doesn't secure a role as part of the show itself, there's a good chance Chezza may still perform on the show in a bid to launch her career on the other side of the pond.

"Cheryl wants to be on the big stage in America but is finding herself having to compromise," a second source commented.

"No-one is bigger than Fox, not even Simon Cowell. It is their millions and they want a big return. Cheryl cannot guarantee that."

To make it up to Cheryl, Simon is said to have offered to double her salary on the UK judging panel if he can't get her a role in the US, meaning she will earn £2m for this year’s series.

Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh, meanwhile, have reportedly been offered £1.25m to reprise their roles.
