Simon Cowell has admitted that he "crossed the line" when it came to sacking Cheryl Cole from The X Factor USA, stating his friendship with the Geordie babe is not the same.
The music mogul, who infamously ditched Chezza for Nicole Scherzinger on the US panel last year, claims he didn't handle the situation very well, issuing a further apology to the 28-year old.
Speaking of the whole US XF/Cheryl fiasco, SiCo told The Daily Mail's Live magazine: "I know when I've crossed the line a little bit.
"I thought there was going to be a big reaction. I wasn't prepared for what was coming next. I had to apologise for the way it was handled."
When asked if their friendship is now back on track, Cowell explained: "I think it is, yeah - we text occasionally.
"I mean she's not on the phone every night anymore, but she broke the ice when she sent me that funny birthday message. I thought it was hilarious. I loved her for it."
Following their rift, the Girls Aloud stunner is expected to launch her new single on rival talent show The Voice next month, to coincide with the release of her third solo LP.
