Chipmunk: "Getting To Number 1 Was Amazing"

EXCLUSIVE: Plus the 18-year old talks Alexandra, Robbie and Leona Lewis...

Chipmunk has exclusively told MTV News how he felt when his new single Oopsy Daisy topped the charts.

The 18-year old said: “It was just so overwhelming. It never took me the time it took other people to get there and at the same time, to be apart of the whole rise of urban talent and getting a number 1 single it was amazing.”

However, Chip-Diddy-Chip has stiff competition to retain his place at number 1 as the almighty Robbie Williams and Alexandra Burke’s singles, out this week, look set to knock him off the top spot.

Chipmunk himself admitted to us: “I think I will get knocked off from number 1 this week as Alexandra Burke has come from X Factor that has an audience of over 30 million people so I’m not trying to compete with that and of course Robbie Williams is back…”

He added: “I will probably come in at number 3 as Oopsy Daisy is still selling but in terms of Alex and Robbie, Alex is gonna win - no doubt. I reckon she will even sell double than Robbie Williams.”

The Diamond Rings singer also offered his opinion on his two chart rivals stating: “I prefer Alexandra Burkes’ song to Robbie’s, all fairness to Robbie for what he’s done and but I like Alexandra Burke and her song but I don’t really know what to think about Flo Rida.”

Aside from chart news, Chipmunk also exclusively told us his views on one of the biggest showbiz stories of the week – the assault on X Factor star Leona Lewis.

Chipmunk said: “When I heard that Leona was assaulted, the first thing I thought was as an artist, people don’t actually realise some of the difficulties we encounter being us and trying to be successful…”

He added: “I assumed it was a woman (that hit Leona) but when I heard it was a man, I just thought that’s disgusting - she was just doing her signing, doing her thing."

"I’ve never met her but she seems so innocent like the type of person that wouldn’t even step on a fly. My heart goes out to her.”
