When June rolls around, theres only one place to go party right? Ibiza. Well........ Here at MTV News we think this year The White Isle might just have a rival.
The challenge comes in the form of the original Sin City " Las Vegas. Not only does it have over 10 clubs to rival anything Ibiza has in size, it's now playing the same cutting edge beats - due to the presence of some of the worlds top DJs.
Dont believe us? In one weekend in May - Tiesto, Eric Morillo, DJ AM, Danny Tenaglia, Clinton Sparks and Steve Aoki to name but a few are all hitting the decks. And being a drive away from LA, Vegas regulars include Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Leonardo Di Caprio.
What Vegas has learnt best from Ibiza is how to party while the suns up. There's no Ocean or beach, but you'll find some of the most beautiful people, best sound systems and wicked pools in the world. Arguably the hottest spot is The Palms (the venue for the 2007 MTV VMAs " think Britneys comeback) where every Friday thousands of revellers skip work " hence the name Ditch Fridays " and head to the three-acre paradise made up of three pools, four outdoor bars, a separate dining area, waterfalls and - if youre a celeb - VIP cabanas.
It just so happens that the resident Ditch Friday DJ is MTV veteran (TRL, Grind, Spring Break) DJ Skribble.
We caught up with Skribble shortly before his set last week where he told us what makes Vegas so special: It's just off the chain. Pure and simple. Said the NY native, adding: What George Maloof has done with The Palms is a great example " its perfect for the MTV generation " amazing weather, thousands of beautiful people and one of the best outdoor sound systems in the world.
So how does it compare to Ibiza? For me, here you have the best bits of Ibiza and Miami. I play a 6 hour set here and its got loads of stuff Europeans would love " mash-ups, electro, hip hop, pop. OK, ok, so flights are a few hundred quid more expensive but with the state of the dollar at the moment, things work out much cheaper when you get there.
MTV News will of course be backwards and forwards from Ibiza this summer so stay tuned for the other side of the argument! In case you were wondering.. Skribbles track of the summer? Im loving Turboweekend Stand by Grand Marnier. Its big.
