Following the success of Day 1, the crowds began arriving early on the Saturday, with time in the entrance queue spent recalling stories from the night before and speculating just who the night’s mystery ‘special guest’ could be.
UK legend Andy C brought some drum’n’bass magic to the neonGARDEN, and was followed by a relentless electro house set from German duo Digitalism.
Over on the kineticFIELD stage Martin Solvig mixed tracks from Jay and Yeezy’s Watch The Throne with the UK’s Flux Pavillion (whose I Can’t Stop the Roc boys sampled), while the Frenchman’s own Hello proved a rapturously received highlight.
Dutch trance originators Rank 1 had the whole of the circuitGROUNDS jumping, while fellow countrymen (and woman) Shermanology brought the party to the discoverySTAGE.
It was at this point that things took an unexpected turn, as the breeze that had been blowing sand into people’s eyes early in the evening picked up noticeably, causing the plug to be pulled on what was shaping up to be a career highlight set from Calvin Harris on the kineticFIELD.
In what was at first just going to be a temporary measure, all main stage activity was halted and the crowds were ushered towards the grandstand amidst health and safety fears as the winds became stronger and stronger.
Unfortunately, despite the organisers’ best efforts, the weather wouldn’t allow the evening’s events to restart, and headlining sets from AVICII, Tiësto, and Blue Man Group with Steve Aoki amongst others had to be abandoned.
While the crowds were understandably disappointed to miss out on many of the night’s biggest names, their was a general appreciation that there was not much else the organisers could have done under the circumstances, and Insomniac did soften the blow by allowing all Saturday ticket holders free entry to the festival when it restated the next day.
