EMAs: Placebo Pick Up Best Alternative

The British group win in Berlin…

The Best Alternative award at the MTV EMAs has gone to British group Placebo.

The band - most famous for hits like Every You, Every Me and Nancy Boy - released their sixth studio album Battle For The Sun earlier this year.

On stage singer Brian Molko said: "It's amazing after 15 years to be getting one of these awards."

Placebo- who this year headlined festivals and gigs across Europe- beat The Prodigy and Paramore to the prize.

Winners already tonight are U2 (Best Live Act) and Beyonce (Best Song). Still to perform are Shakira, U2 and Leona Lewis.

Foo Fighters have just performed Wheels and All My Life.
