What is Generation Change?

Generation Change is MTV International’s campaign that elevates and empowers young people from around the world who are using their voices and taking action to create change and tackle the world’s most important issues, from equality to climate change. Every young person can make a difference, and every act of change – big or small – is important. Together, we can make an impact.

What are we doing?

For MTV UK’s Generation Change initiative, we are inviting Black fans from all over the UK and Republic of Ireland to submit a video idea of up to 60 seconds maximum duration that can help us amplify Black voices in a powerful way. You do not have to identify as an activist to speak in these videos. This is a platform for anyone who feels like they have something to say.

If your submission is chosen, we will contact you to discuss next steps on how to film your piece of content. Note, if your idea is successful, you will need to film the content yourself, either using your mobile smart phone or other camera device. Once we have received your final video, it could potentially be shared across the MTV network, including TV and social media channels worldwide.

Why?

2020 has been a year that has seen mass demonstrations and outcries over prevailing systemic failures to address racial equality. We want to use our platform to elevate Black stories across our channel. This is only a small step, but we believe that every step in the right direction makes a difference.

What kind of thing are we looking for?

We want to leave this as open as possible. Perhaps, you would like to read a poem you have written or talk about an experience you have had. It could be a funny story, or a joke with a lesson…the more varied the submissions the better! The videos must be 15, 30 or 60 seconds long, but if your videos run over, we can help edit them down.

The first step is to think about what you’d like to say. Once you have an idea, then fill out the form below. If we want to learn more about your proposal, our production team will be in touch to discuss your idea and give you technical instructions on how to film the video so that it’s as high-quality as it can be.

By submitting your user-generated content you hereby grant MTV (Viacom International Media Networks U.K. Limited) and its respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliated companies and licensees a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, copy, adapt, transmit, broadcast, publish or delete any information or other material including without limitation, your name and user-generated content, submitted to MTV concerning the campaign, by any means and in any and all media as they, in their discretion, see fit.
