Gorillaz have been confirmed to replace U2 as Friday night headliners at Glastonbury Festival next month.
The group- which is likely to include guests like
Mos Def,
Kano,
Shaun Ryder and
De La Soul- have only played a few full live dates until now.
Gorillaz made their live comeback at the Coachella festival in California and then played two shows at the Roundhouse in London.
Glasto organiser Michael Eavis said: “This is going to be Gorilllaz' only UK festival appearance, and it'll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.”
“I'm very excited about Gorillaz' show coming here because they're so open to guests and collaborations.., I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis.”
U2 pulled out this week after singer Bono injured his back. It will be the second year in a row that Damon Albarn has headlined at Glasto- last year he was on stage with his reformed first band Blur.
