Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn has revealed that the animated group will be taking a break in 2011, claiming their Australian tour will be their last for a while.

As we previously reported, the Blur singer had hinted that he was planning to "retire" the band, stating that he "couldn't keep going at this size and pace."

Damon has now confirmed that Gorillaz will be taking a break next year, saying he plans to use the hiatus to work on other projects.

Albarn explained to Triple J: "I'm putting it back in a box for a while. Just putting it back on the shelf. I've got other stuff,”

He added: “I'm doing a piece for the Manchester International Festival about Elizabethan occult philosophy. It kind of was the end of magic and the beginning of science."

Damon also revealed the name of the iPad album that the cartoon collective will be giving away for free on Christmas Day, stating that it will be entitled, The Fall.

The Fall, which was made entirely on Damon's iPad, was written and recorded in America and is set to feature some surprise collaborations from people who "popped in" while Albarn was working on the LP in the US in October.
