Adele Wins Big At 2012 Grammy Awards

As Jennifer Hudson performs an emotional tribute for Whitney Houston...

Adele swept the board at the 54th Grammy Awards last night (12th February), picking up all six gongs she was nominated for.

Her success at the star-studded event means Adele has tied the record for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night, following Beyoncé's six wins in 2010.

The 23-year old star's hoard of trophies included Record of the Year, Song of the Year and the coveted Album of the Year accolade for her record-breaking LP, 21.

Adele burst into tears when accepting the gong, sobbing: "Oh my god. Thank you so much. Mum, I love you, I'm so sorry you're not here,"

The Someone Like You hitmaker, who earlier on in the ceremony thanked doctors for saving her voice, went on: "This record is inspired by something that's really normal and everyone's been through it. It's just a rubbish relationship."

In true Adele style, the Tottenham songstress then noticed she was crying to herself, before adding: "Oh, I got a bit of snot," to a roar of laughter from the Grammys crowd.

As well as dominating the nods, Adele also returned to the stage for the first time since her throat surgery to belt out hit tune Rolling In The Deep - where she received a standing ovation from those present at the Staples Centre.

Although the night belonged to Adele, Jennifer Hudson stole the show with an emotional tribute to Whitney Houston, who passed away aged 48 on Saturday (11th February).

The American Idol star performed Houston's famous hit I Will Always Love You, ending the song by singing the words "Whitney, we will always love you" instead.

Hudson then blew a kiss towards the TV screens, which displayed images of those who had also died in the last year.

Other performers on the night included Rihanna and Coldplay, Sir Paul McCartney and Nicki Minaj - who appeared to be 'exorcised' by a bishop as she sang new single, The Exorcism of Roman.

Katy Perry also took to the stage to sing her new single, Part Of Me - with reports suggesting the Teenage Dream star could have aimed her fiery performance at estranged hubby, Russell Brand.

As well as Adele picking up multiple gongs, Foo Fighters also took home five awards including Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Album.

Kanye West was triumphant in the Rap categories, receiving prizes for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album. Yeezy was not present to accept the awards.

Taylor Swift won two Grammys in the country field, while Bon Iver were named Best New Artist beating the likes of Nicki Minaj and J Cole.
