Ibiza Rocks Kooks Review

Plus Propaganda DJ’s and Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit...

After a stellar set from Propaganda DJ’s, Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit opened for The Kooks at this week’s Ibiza Rocks gig.

Their first song, Modern Leper got the crowd moving and when singer Scott introduced himself, the screaming replies showed us that despite the White Isle being a notorious clubbing hotspot, it also knows how to rock out.

After storming through songs from their new album The Winter Of Mixed Drinks, the relatively new band took over the small stage making it their own.

A highlight of the set was when they performed a cover of N-Trance’s dance floor filler Set You Free, putting a modern spin on the clubbing classic with a unique indie twist, showing why Ibiza Rocks is the perfect platform for the world of dance music and modern rock to collide.

The cover was well-received by the strong crowd as they danced under the Ibiza sunset as Frightened Rabbit rounded off their perfect debut at Ibiza Rocks with Keep Yourself Warm.

The crowd were well and truly warmed up now for the tender tones of Luke Pritchard, as headliners for a second year running The Kooks made their return to Ibiza Rocks.

Opening their set with the appropriately named track Sea Side, it seemed like Luke and the lads had never been away as their adoring audience sang along to the track from hit album Inside In/Inside Out.

Despite being absent from the music scene for almost two years, Pritchard looked at home on the Ibiza Rocks stage as the lads powered through with hits Always Where, Ooh La and the popular track, She Moves In Her Own Way which went down well with the crowd – who were singing along and waiting upon Luke’s every word.

He put on an energetic performance and seemed proud to be representing indie music for the second time in Ibiza. The audience continued to party hard as the band played Sofa Song before dropping their biggest hit to date, Naïve.

The Ibiza Rocks hotel was transformed into a singing frenzy, as the crowd looked as if they would not be out of place at karaoke bar, knowing every word to the hit song as Luke left them to sing the iconic chorus as he rocked out under the green lights of the stage.

After the crowd got their breathes back, the band played track Shine On from album Konk before debuting songs their eagerly awaited new LP, with tunes Strange One and See The Sun standing out.

They ended their strong hour and a half set with Do You Wanna, as the crowd danced the night away, proving that although The Kooks may be been away for a while, they are here to stay.
