Ahead of supporting Florence and the Machine at this weeks Ibiza Rocks gig, we caught up with White Isle newcomers The Drums to talk about why they are not won over by Ibiza just yet, how they feel about Morrissey being a fan of theirs and who they are tipping for success in the near future...

Q. Is this your first time in Ibiza and how does it compare to other places you’ve played?

A: We haven't been to Ibiza before but It’s probably our least favourite place we’ve been so far, just to be honest, but we haven’t played here yet so we don’t know.

Q. What is it you don’t like about Ibiza?

A. Well, we don’t really like the climate and it’s just maybe a little too rowdy or something. People here aren’t very modest, if you know what I mean.

Q. How does it feel to be supporting Florence and the Machine at Ibiza Rocks tonight?

A. It’s nice, I guess. We’ve played a few shows with her before, so it’s nice to just hang out. Yeah she’s a lovely girl and really sweet. She's very tall. I think she has some cool songs. There’s this one song, Cosmic Love – it’s really pretty. Cosmic Love’s a beautiful song. A lot of vivid imagery.

Q. Are you just a fan of that one song?

A. Oh, across the board, but specifically for that song yes.

Q. What can we expect from your set tonight?

A. I guess just maybe, if you’ve seen us before it’s gonna be pretty similar to that. There’s not gonna be any surprises, but you know we’re excited to play in front of anybody, so hopefully everybody will be nice to us and it’ll feel good. We had a soccer ball thrown at us from like the fifth storey just a few minutes ago, so we’re a little nervous on how this might go. People are trying to murder us cos we’re not running around naked and we look stupid.

Q. Will you be partying in Ibiza tonight after the gig?

A. I don’t know, we’ll probably just go back to our room and relax. Maybe have a glass of wine and think about the future.

Q. So you won’t be throwing any TV’s out of hotel room windows?

A. No, the TV’s here are very flat so it wouldn’t make much of an impact.

Q. What do you think makes Ibiza the perfect party destination?

A. Well, maybe we should ask anyone else in this room (asks a passer by) The sun, the sea, the tanning, the amazing club nights and the free laundry.

Q. Morrissey is said to be a huge fan of yours. Do you consider this a compliment?

A. Oh sure,  yeah that’s really nice, that’s nice to hear. We consider any fan that likes our music to be giving us a compliment, regardless of their musical past. For me personally, The Smiths were one of my first favourite bands when I was a kid, so it is really cool to know that.

Q. Would you ever consider working with him/collaborating with him?

A. I think that’s one of those things you leave to be it’s own thing. There are some things that you shouldn’t touch you know and that’s probably one of them. We don’t collaborate very often and he doesn’t seem to really either so maybe we can just have dinner some time. Admire from a distance.

Q. Rolling Stone magazine described you as one of the best indie pop debuts of the year. Who would you tip for success in the near future?

A. The Maccabees, Francis and the Lights. I think there’s a lot of bands right now that are pretty amazing. We’re friends with a band called The Violins that are about to do a tour with us in the UK that are really amazing. We also like a band in the UK called Two Wounded Birds. In America there’s a band called Young Friends and from Finland, Cats On Fire. All bands to look out for in 2010.
